VIDEO: Drowning victim pulled from Osterville pond... father of young daughters discovered onshore...
OSTERVILLE – The following is the actual COMM press statement regarding the missing swimmer/drowning last evening at Joshua's Pond:
COMM Fire Department was notified via 911 of a bystander who discovered two young children reporting a missing swimmer at Joshua’s Pond. We immediately responded two ambulances, an inflatable boat with rescue board, COMM & Hyannis Dive Teams and duty officer with a lighting plant. BPD also responded.
Upon arrival COMM Fire Lt. Tom Miskiv immediately entered the water and began to search while the remainder of his crew searched the shoreline and interviewed the witnesses. The lighting plant, rescue board and inflatable boat were used to assist with the search. Barnstable Police secured the scene.
Members of both dive teams worked together to eventually recover a male- approximately 35 years old from the water at 2035 hrs. He was transported by a COMM Advanced Life Support Ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
Assisting Agencies: Barnstable Police Department, Hyannis Fire Department Dive Team, Mass State Police Helo- (responding at the time of discovery)
Estimated # of Personnel: 22 fire rescue personnel on scene, mutual aid companies from Cotuit and Barnstable Villages back filled our stations.

The following video documents firefighters and police doing all they could to locate and rescue a father who was reported missing by his two young daughters. It shows first responders immediately beginning their search. It shows dive teams arriving on scene. It shows Barnstable Police quickly arriving and deploying a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera. And it shows the setting up of a command center.
Despite the best all the best efforts of firefighters and police, the missing swimmer did not survive.
