Here’s a look at the Life Events of the man who went on to become the BUDDHA… 12. Name - Gautama Buddha was born as Siddhartha Gautama. He became a Buddha (The Enlightened One) after his Enlightenment. 11. Prince - Siddhartha Gautama was actually born a prince, who belonged to the Shakya Clan of Nepal. 10. Prophecy - After Siddhartha Gautama was born an astrologer predicted that he will either be a Holy Man or he will become a Great King. 9. Family - He was married to Yasodhara and even had a son named Rahula. 8. Four Sights - Siddhartha faced reality at age 29, when he ventured out of the palace into the countryside. He saw an Aged Man, A Sick Man, A corpse and a Wandering Ascetic. 7. Realization - Siddhartha had seen Pain and Suffering for the first time. He was troubled and could not lead the normal Palace life anymore. He realized the reality of Life was not Luxury and Pleasure but – Pain, Suffering and Death. 6. Enlightenment - Siddhartha left the Palace and his Family in search for answers. After wandering for 6 years as an ascetic, he discovered the ‘Middle Way’. Sitting under the Fig (Peepal) Tree and meditating for 49 days, He finally achieved “ENLIGHTENMENT.” 5. Reluctant Teacher - Buddha was reluctant at first to teach. However he relented and The first sermon of Gautama Buddha was in Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh, INDIA. 4. Re-United - During his journey to spread his teachings, Buddha visited his father, King Suddhodana, his wife Yashodhara who became his disciples. His son Rahula became the youngest monk at the very age of 7 and  started living with his father. 3. Not Fat - Buddha is often been depicted as Fat and Chubby as it was a symbol of Happiness in the East. In reality Buddha practiced moderation in all things, fasted regularly, and spent most of his time walking hundreds of miles spreading his Teachings. 2. Not God - Buddha is viewed more as a Teacher and not as a God. Buddha’s spot of enlightenment underneath the Bodhi Tree is still preserved to this day. 1. Teachings - Buddha taught and traveled his entire life until the age of 80 when he passed away in Kushinagar, INDIA.
