Background: the Military Commissions Act of 2006 eliminated the Writ of Habeas Corpus, i.e. the right to legally challenge one's imprisonment, for so-called "unlawful enemy combatants," a group that might include U.S. citizens. It also allowed for military tribunals in which secret evidence and evidence obtained through coercion (basically, torture) would be permissible. We need to get off this slippery slope and realize that giving up our basic rights for the sake of capturing a few more terrorists is actually playing right into the terrorists' hands.
