Dr. Joanna Chon brings a wealth of expertise in all areas of general urology with specialized training in male and female voiding disorders.
She is board certified in Urology and the newly created specialty of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Chon graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her bachelors’ degree in Bioengineering and attended medical school at George Washington University. She completed her residency training at the University of Maryland and then completed a fellowship in pelvic floor reconstruction, voiding dysfunction, and urodynamics at the Tower Institute of Continence, Cedars Sinai Hospital, in Los Angeles . Following her fellowship, Dr. Chon returned to Philadelphia where she was an Assistant Professor at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. Prior to moving to Florida, she was in private practice in the Philadelphia suburbs. She was voted by her peers in Philadelphia in 2011 and 2012 as a “Top Doc” in the Philadelphia magazine. She joined Naples Urology Associates in June 2012. In Naples, she was selected as a “Top Doc” in 2013 and 2014 by GulfShore Life magazine.
Dr. Chon serves on the board of Society of Women in Urology. She is also a current member of American Urological Association and Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction. Dr. Chon has also published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, written chapters for urology textbooks and taught numerous surgical courses on pelvic floor reconstruction and vaginal sling techniques.
Dr. Chon stays on the forefront of urological techniques by keeping abreast on the cutting edge technology and procedures. She is an established pelvic floor reconstructive surgeon and offers a vast array of surgical techniques including: vaginal, laparoscopic and robotic approaches. She specializes in cystocele repairs, rectocele repairs, sacrocolpopexy and vaginal sling procedures. Dr. Chon follows all industry standards and FDA guidelines for the use of pelvic mesh. Besides surgical intervention, Dr. Chon also offers a wide variety of conservative and medical treatments to help her male and female patients with voiding and pelvic floor disorders. She advocates the use of Pelvic Floor Therapy and biofeedback and has established a Pelvic Floor Therapy Clinic that teaches both male and female patients the proper techniques to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.
Dr. Chon also enjoys seeing men and women for general urological needs. She can help men and women manage and treat their general urological needs including kidney stone management, incontinence, dysuria, hematuria, biopsies of the bladder, bladder cancer surveillance and cystoscopies. Specifically, she can help men with BPH, PSA surveillance, Erectile Dysfunction as well as prostate biopsies, TURPs, and vasectomies. Dr. Chon offers a wide variety of products, treatments and services that range from conservative to surgical therapies. She believes in educating the patient about their condition, discussing the treatment options with the patient and developing a treatment plan that allows the patient to make informed decisions about their urological care.
