Please join us in room 205 Falvey Memorial Library on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 4:00 p.m. for a lecture by Chaim Saiman, Professor of law, Villanova School of Law, titled "Martyrdom: The Intersection of Jewish Law and Theology." This talk is part of the Conscience of the Holocaust lecture series, an annual event held by the Library to commemorate the anniversary of Simon Wiesenthal's death (Sept. 20) and to recognize his achievements and legacy in relation to the Holocaust. Are there ideas worth dying for? Can religion be more important than life itself? This lecture explores how the Jewish tradition approaches this question through a fusion of law, philosophy and theology. Jewish law offers not only practical guidance, but serves as a platform for a wide-ranging discussion of this central question of religious identity.
