We know that materials which allow electric current to flow freely are called conductors. Metals, such as gold, copper, graphite and aluminium, are good conductors of electric charge. Plastics, wood, and rubber are not good conductors and are called insulators. In this lesson we look at the types of materials that conduct electricity. We distinguish between conductors and non-conductors and we investigate the phenomenon of free electrons which enables a substance to conduct electricity.
